Tuesday Tuneage: Old & New

This week’s playlist features fresh sounds all around, both from artists old and new. With lots of new tunes on the horizon this month, we’re diving right in to the mix with these tracks.

Be sure to subscribe to the Tuesday Tuneage playlist on Spotify!

1. “Adventure of a Lifetime” – Coldplay

This tune brings a whole new sound to the alt-pop foursome. Fresh with light, plunky pop tones and a dance beat, it’s almost as if it’s not Coldplay we’re listening to at all – but it’s catchy as all can get. If this is what their new record “A Head Full of Dreams” (out Dec. 4), then sign me up.

2. “Makeshift Love” – Good Charlotte

Be still our pop-punk hearts. These veteran rockers are back with this new single, full of chord-crushing verses and that “emo” sensibility that made us fall in love with them in the ancient times of 2004. It may just inspire you to take a trip to Hot Topic.

3. “Cake By The Ocean” – DNCE

Joe Jonas and his group tackle a number of genres (including electro-pop and 70s funk) in this dance floor-ready banger. It’s quirky, it’s fun, and in all honesty, it has grown on me since I first heard it. Play this one beachside, folks (we all know Florida is warm enough for it right now…)

4. “Irresistible” – Fall Out Boy feat. Demi Lovato

Fierce from the get-go, the standard FOB sound adds a fresh set of vocals from the dynamic Lovato. Add this one to your gym playlist.

5. “Hollow” – Tori Kelly feat. Big Sean

This rising songstress continues to show off her killer pipes in this thrumming single. Backed by a verse from Big Sean, Kelly is starting to solidify herself as a go-to R&B-pop maven.

6. “Let It Go” – James Bay

I’ll admit, I am a little late to catch the James Bay train, but this haunting first single from the English singer-songwriter has been making waves in the music world for a while now. And its no wonder – tender, slightly scratchy vocals compliment the simple guitar and musicality in the background. Bay is definitely an artist to keep an eye (and both ears) on.

7. “Pray For Rain” – Pure Bathing Culture

Indie-pop duo Pure Bathing Culture inflict some 80s-reminiscent vocals and sounds on this upbeat, synthesized track. Off of an album of the same title (released Oct. 23), this tune is almost tailor made for the college crowds – but it is satisfying for any fan of electro-indie sounds.

Video of the Week: “Tennessee Whiskey/Drink You Away” – Chris Stapleton & Justin Timberlake at the 2015 CMA Awards

Everyone’s talking about this performance – and for good reason. The combo of (relative) country newcomer Stapleton and music veteran Timberlake made for one of the night’s biggest highlights.
