Now that we’ve said R.I.P. to October, we are moving into a November chock-full of new albums from some of the biggest artists around – Adele, One Direction, Justin Bieber, the list continues. While we wait, let’s check out some of the other new tunes hitting the airwaves so far this month.
As always, be sure to subscribe to the Tuesday Tuneage playlist on Spotify.
1. “Focus” – Ariana Grande
The newly platinum Grande is back with a new single off of her forthcoming album “Moonlight” and man is it full of frothy pop fun. During a Q&A at the iHeartRadio Theatre this past weekend, Grande likened the new track to “‘Problem”s older sister” – the sound is definitely showing off a more polished, pop queen-in-waiting sound. (Listen for Jamie Foxx’s surprise vocals in the chorus, as well. This track is bananas.)
2. “Could Have Been Me” – The Struts
These English rockers are gaining air play with this fun, rollicking track off of their “Have You Heard” EP. Mixing musicality akin to The Darkness with bits of Freddie Mercury-esque leading man theatricality (in vocalist Luke Spiller), the group seem to be on their way to a standard spot in the pop-rock stratosphere.
3. “Simple Things” (remix) – Miguel feat. Chris Brown & Future
Dark and sensual (as Miguel is known to do), this remixed track off of the crooner’s “Wildheart” album features equally smooth verses from Chris Brown and Future. The triple threat overtop of this hook-ready beat separates it from the other pop-R&B standouts.
4. “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes” – Jessie Ware (from the “We Love Disney” soundtrack)
The classic Disney theme gets the etherial treatment from dreamy English singer Jessie Ware, with darker tones giving a different feel to the tune. Yet Ware’s beautiful vocalization maintains the essence of the song’s almost overwhelming sense of whimsy – a wonderful fit for a standard from the House of Mouse.
5. “Dancing on Glass” – St. Lucia
Easily danceable from the get-go, this hook-laden track from electro-pop outfit St. Lucia is just as catchy as their standout track “Elevate.” Shimmering in synth, this song is definitely in the running for my go-to party playlist.
6. “Thank God for Girls” – Weezer
A different feel for the much loved alt-rockers, the new single is catchy but, albeit, strange (just look up the lyrics – do we fully ~get~ what’s going on here?). No word yet on a full release following this track, but we can only hope, right?
7. “CeeLo Green Sings The Blues” – CeeLo Green
Bizarre and brooding, this new track from Green definitely fits the blues feel. With lyrics like “Hello my name is CeeLo Green and I’ve got the blues…,” it may just be a bit more upfront than one would originally think.
Video of the Week: “Focus” – Ariana Grande
You didn’t think I could skip out on a new AG video, did you? In all honesty, this video seems to have a new feel – is it more confidence? Is it more bonafide pop princess status? Is it the platinum hair and the star-shrouded outfits? I can’t pinpoint the reason, but I’m starting to think this may skyrocket Grande into an even bigger pop superstar stratosphere.
