Tuesday Tuneage: Across the Pond (and Beyond)

Fall is bringing some slammin’ new tracks from some of the UK’s biggest acts, a handful of which are included in this week’s playlist.

As always, be sure to subscribe to the “Tuesday Tuneage” Spotify playlist below.

  1. “On My Mind” – Ellie Goulding

The latest single from English songstress Goulding is positively peppy with a millennial dance hall vibe (no surprise here, as it is produced by megapop power player Max Martin). Goulding’s recently premiered the song live at (newly renamed) Apple Music Festival in London in anticipation of her third record, “Delirium,” which is set to drop on November 6.

  1. “Come and Get It” – John Newman

The first single off of the English musician’s second album, “Revolve,” Newman’s rich, vibrant voice shines on this upbeat, thrumming track. You’ve probably heard Newman on Calvin Harris’ smash single “Blame,” as well as on solo tracks like “Love Me Again” – and this new record will apparently feature actor Idris Elba on one of the tracks. If I wasn’t sold already, count me in as one of the many waiting for his second LP to drop on October 16.

  1. “Runnin’ (Lose It All)” – Naughty Boy feat. Beyonce and Arrow Benjamin

This track from DJ/producer Naughty Boy (Sam Smith’s “La La La,” that guy who worked with and then shared “beef” with Zayn Malik) starts off as your standard Beyonce ballad, but picks up with a thumping chorus and a lead-in to Benjamin’s voice. The two voices fit in well with the song, both soulful and soaring over the fast-paced beat.

  1. “Tomorrow” – A Silent Film

This alt-rock band from across the pond (Oxford, to be exact) has been on my radar since college, and they continue to make electro-popped alt kickers that pique my interest. With a sound reminiscent of The Killers meets Snow Patrol (with a slightly more electronic background), the group is preparing to release their self-titled third album on October 16.

  1. “Hotline Bling” – Drake

One of Drake’s latest solo releases, this simple, thumping track is already Internet famous and Vine-ready. The rapper has also teamed up again with Future for a new mixtape album called “What A Time To Be Alive,” which is now streaming on Beats 1 radio show OVO Sound Radio.

  1. “How Deep Is Your Love” – Calvin Harris & Disciples

The latest from the Scottish DJ’s wide array of techno-pop smashes (this time featuring the English trio of Disciples also taking part), this trance-esque track is infectious in all the right places. With a video featuring model Gigi Hadid, the song has continued to get tons of play both on air and on the web.

  1. “Street Fight” – Smallpools

Indie pop-rockers Smallpools have a knack for fun, funky pop-alt tracks and “Street Fight” is no exception. Off of their album “LOVETAP!,” this is the perfect track for a road trip mixtape or party prep playlist – put the top down and blast this one, folks.

Video of the Week: “Put Your Money On Me” – The Struts

If you mix the musicality of The Strokes and The Darkness with some of the frontman theatricality of Queen and The Rolling Stones, you’d get these British rockers. Lead singer Luke Spiller looks eerily like Freddie Mercury and this rollicking track from their 2014 release “Everybody Wants” showcases it all in slo-mo form. This song is a lot of fun and has intrigued this music listener.

Share your thoughts and song picks and you could be featured in next week’s playlist!
