Tuesday Tune-age: Post-President’s Day Pop!

“Hey you! Yeah, I’m talking to you, sassy girl! Need a little ‘ahh’ in your step? Try this on for size…it’s POP! Tastes great, it makes you feel kinda funny…”

This week’s playlist centers around arguably my favorite genre, pop. Here are some of those bubble-gum, dance-crazy goodies that will surely make your week even more smiley! (There is the occasional crossover in there, but hey, it’s still some good tunes!)

*And for those of you who caught the opening reference, brownie points a-plenty!

1. The Cab – La La
The Cab has always had catchy pop-rock ditties, and this one is no exception!

2. Karmin – Brokenhearted
With a strong vocal prowess and equally infectious hook, this You Tube star-turned-overnight SNL musical guest is slowly rising on the pop radar.

3. Kelly Clarkson – Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)
Believe the hype. This girl knows how to make a hit single, and when you mix in powerful lyrics like these, you’ve got a bonafide hit on your hands.

4. Fun. – Some Nights
Off of their new album of the same name, this song mixes theatricality (a la Queen) with indie alt-pop. I have been listening to this song all week and it still has the same forceful effect!

5. The Fray – Rainy Zurich
Although I have never been a big fan of the band, this song is smooth and calm, romantic tranquility rampant in its soft piano. Showing the smoother side of pop, these guys obviously know the key to adult alternative success.

6. Mariah Carey – Always Be My Baby
Surprise! Another throwback! One of the queens of the genre, this is arguably one of her best. And that voice!

7. Rascal Flatts feat. Natasha Bedingfield – Easy
Country-pop crossovers are hardly a dime-a-dozen nowadays, but the combination of these two acts never made the two genres blend so well.

(Pop) Throwback of the Week: Madonna – Material Girl

This is by far favorite Madonna video and the epitome of diva-tastic, superstar, girly girl-ness! From its premiere date through the present, this video has inspired practically every girl to dream (at least a little bit) of dressing up in diamonds and a super chic hot-pink get-up, right? Right…so enjoy the nostalgia, ladies! And guys, take note! 😉
